Many people were stunned when, earlier this month, President Trump sided with democrats over a spending bill.
Some people saw it as a break from the GOP and perhaps an about-face from some of his biggest promises.
But according to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, that’s not the case at all. Because he put something into the bill that the dem’s won’t like.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell hinted Monday that Democratic leadership will not be as thrilled with the emergency Hurricane funding, government spending and debt ceiling deal they struck with the president as they initially thought.
“Since I was in charge of drafting the debt ceiling provision that we inserted into the flood bill we likely — almost certainly — are not going to have another debt ceiling discussion until well into 2018,” McConnell told The New York Times Monday…
McConnell, Ryan, McCarthy and Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin were all in favor of raising the debt ceiling longer than Schumer and Pelosi wanted, the source told TheDCNF.
Republican leadership in Congress pitched the president on an 18-month, and later a six-month, raising of the debt ceiling, which Schumer and Pelosi refused to accept.
Both Republican and Democratic leadership at the meeting were going to agree to disagree, when the president unexpectedly sided with the Democrats.
If what McConnell said Monday is true, Congress will only be focusing on emergency relief and a government spending bill in December, likely Dec. 15.
“I think I can safely say the debt ceiling and the spending issue in December will be decoupled because the debt ceiling will not come up until sometime in 2018,” McConnell told TheNYT.
This side of politics and government tends to slip by most Americans’ notice. But it’s how things happen in Washington.
Those that vote on bills play this back and forth game. They try to manipulate others and the American people, into accepting things they do not want, in order to pass laws that are needed.
It’s obvious the government needed to provide support for the victims of Harvey. Yet the democrats wanted to use that as an excuse to push for funding of bad government programs—like Obamacare.
And while it seemed like Trump caved to their expectations, McConnell was able to craft the law in a way that shuts down the democrat’s plans. For now.
It remains to be seen if we get the tax cuts the President has been promising, along with many of his other goals.
