Even longtime anti-Trumpers are finally coming around to one simple fact: Donald Trump might actually know what he’s doing. And a few of them are ready to jump back on the bandwagon.
Trump, it seems, is very persistent. And when he finds someone he wants to hire, he doesn’t take ‘no’ for an answer. At least, not for a final answer – he’s prepared to take many no’s in preparation for that final ‘yes.’
And the never-Trumper who just said ‘yes’ to being hired? None other than Cindy McCain. Wife of Senator John McCain, the very same who said he’d never vote for Trump, and didn’t.
And denounced him in the primaries, and the election. And who said that Trump’s Russia contacts should be investigated. That John McCain.
The McCain whose wife is now working for Donald Trump.
The Daily Caller reports:
Cindy McCain agreed to join the Trump administration Tuesday after months of turning down offers from President Donald Trump.
Trump has reportedly been trying to convince McCain, the wife of Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain, to join the Trump administration for several months.
Trump and McCain have agreed on an ambassador position focused on anti-human trafficking efforts, refugees, and humanitarian-aid issues.
This isn’t some politically motivated hire. Cindy McCain has a long history of working with humanitarian causes. And she’s very, very good at it.
True to form, when Trump finds someone who is good at their job, he tries to get them to come work for him.
From the Daily Beast:
“[Trump personally], aggressively courted her for this,” one White House official told The Daily Beast. “It’s a done deal now… The president had floated several positions before—this is the one that stuck.”
Trump was so dead-set on Cindy that he even took a few out-of-the-way routes to get close.
The president has privately discussed the prospect of an administration position with McCain multiple times, including during at least one White House dinner that Trump hosted for the McCains in April.
“When [President Trump] sat down and ate with [John] McCain, it was always really to meet with the other McCain.”
Poor John. His only relevance now is as an access point for his wife.
Trump, however, just showed the world what a businessman’s perseverance can really do.
Cindy is a welcome addition to his administration. We should expect great things.
