Photo Of A Cop Sleeping ‘On Duty’ Just Went Viral, & You’ll Understand Why When You Hear What He Did

You might not think it, but it’s easy to be a hero at least one time. Lots of people find the bravery and strength to do what’s necessary in a moment of crisis.

The trick is, though, to be able to do it hundreds of times, over and over. That’s true heroism. Especially when the fatigue and hunger set in. It’s the difference between a winning lottery ticket, and a successful investor – the latter knows how to win over and over again. And that’s the guy you want on your side.

It’s safe to say that Deputy Sheriff Robert Goerlitz is one of those men. He’s one of hundreds who are rescuing the thousands who were trapped in their homes and on their roofs during the flooding of Hurricane Harvey. And his picture is going viral – but not because he was photographed saving a victim.

Quite the contrary – this is Deputy Goerlitz after saving several dozen victims, all through the night. This is what happens to heroes when they finally get a moment to sit down.

The Independent Journal Review reports:

Harris County Deputy Sheriff Robert Goerlitz collapsed in exhaustion after hours of rescues. [His] image has gone viral as the symbol of the bravery being demonstrated by Texas public servants.

The deadly flooding as a result of Hurricane Harvey has affected many thousands. Tireless rescue workers and emergency officers have worked around the clock to save lives alongside regular Texans.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s office, there have been around 2,000 high-water rescues in the area.

It’s easy to see why these men have to work all night.

And it’s worth noting that it’s not just officers in uniform. Regular Texans have been grabbing their boats and getting people out as quickly as they can. Any able-bodied men and women are welcome.

But, of course, able-bodied men and women have to sleep sometime. And it usually comes at you when you finally have a moment to sit in silence.

It also gives others the opportunity to take your picture.

It’s not just any country, or any people, that would come together like this. This is what makes America great.

Keep Deputy Goerlitz, his comrades, and Houston in your prayers.
